Snack Snob

Packaging Design for:

What could be more fun and better experience than creating packaging for a candy company? Exel Pak in Los Angeles, CA provides both seasonal and everyday bulk candy and treats, made extraordinary with specialty packaging, to some of the big name stores like Home Goods and Ross under a subdivision called “Snack Snob.”

I was able to use my graphic design and illustrative skills to create packaging that was creative and enticing enough to tempt even the most health conscious of shoppers to indulge in that extra purchase. And lets face it…as all good designers know, a gummy bear is just another gummy bear until the packaging catches your eye.

The first project for HomeGoods was for cute bear vessels with every day and seasonal candy (a face and a body, printed as stickers to be applied to the vessel after it had been filled on the assembly line.) Because the “head” was rounded, the design for the head was limited in size and shape so that it would not buckle when applied. This was definitely a challenging but HomeGoods was very happy with the final designs.

Here are a few of the following designs in HomeGoods on the shelf!

Here are some of the various designs before production.

The next project is for a candy vessel is a rectangular clear plastic box and they wanted the packaging artwork (applied to the clear plastic box as a sticker) to have Halloween monsters emerging from coffins with the nutrition information on the sides. Spooky but fun! These are the final designs that I created. Keep an eye out at HomeGoods this fall!!

I also created labels for square and rectangular clear plastic candy boxes for Ross and a Day of the Dead header card for HomeGoods.
